the story behind the logo

we're asked every now and then who came up with our logo.
in the very early days of Kitchen Sink, before any tiles were ripped from the floor and before breaking down the old counter, we asked some of our artistically inclined friends to sketch some ideas for us.

we knew we wanted something text-based, but we also needed something that might help focus the ambiguity of our name. "Kitchen Sink" could be taken more than one way, and we wanted to evoke food and drink rather than appliances and plumbing.

ally's sister-in-law, the endlessly talented jenna, created the utensil font. she said it was born of her love of all things tiny and silhouetted. "once the idea struck me, it practically designed itself," she says.

it seems to be the perfect font for our cafe. it's cute without being too cute and it gets right to the point.

we have dreams of building a sign made with real silverware, mimicking jenna's design. we'll have to take a few welding courses first, though.
